Hello Members and Associate Members -
Due to crowded beach on holiday weekends (lack of parking) and our Associate Member List at historically high level of 80 and a few other issues, I am placing a temporary pause on the Associate Member List where no new Associate Members will be accepted at this time until we have time to review and discuss.
As a reference point, The CMBC Constitution explicitly states the club focuses on boating education, boating activities, and boating safety. Beach activity is not even mentioned in the Constitution, but I see our beach as a great service and supplement to complimenting our boating activity.
The Associate Member list was originally designed to be on a "waiting list" to become a member and obtaining a permanent slip. They were just as active as Members because they wanted to show they would be a great member when they had their chance to earn a permanent slip. I don't think one needs to own a boat to be an Associate Member, but it is expected that they are very active in the club just like we request that from our members. I can say we have many active Associate members that do not own a boat and thank goodness we have them as we need that to thrive. It does seem however that some of our new Associate Members from the last couple of years are joining just so they can have vehicle access to the beach and do not plan to do anything more than that. The CMBC has never been meant to be a bargain priced beach club. I have reviewed the Associate Member list and there seems to be a possible group that do not plan to do much more than pay their "beach access" fees. We need active Members AND active Associate Members. Again, I am placing a temporary pause on this until the EC and general membership can dive into this more. I am always opened to anybody's ideas that can help in this area.
Again, I can rattle off many names of Associate Members that do not own a boat that are very active with the club and thank goodness that we have them!
An issue associated with this is the use of Gate Keys to unapproved guests. Guests are anybody that are visiting or staying with a Member or an Associate Member. "Approved guest" is a vague term, BUT IT DOES NOT PERTAIN TO OTHER NEIGHBORS IN THE COMMUNITY AND THEIR GUESTS. A Member/Associate Member can NOT give their gate card to another neighbor and their guests. Remember, you are responsible for your guests' behavior even if you are not on the beach and that is hard to do if you do not know them. It is not required, but it is a Best Practice to be present at beach when using your gate card. It is required however for Member/Associate Member to be present if a guest is using the boat ramp (and must have proper insurance coverage).
I hope this helps for now.
Thanks

Hello Members and Associate Members
I had several requests to send out a summary of July's meeting since the Minutes take a month to be approved. Again, these are not the official minutes.
I do want to take the time to applaud those who attended the last meeting as the three topics we voted on were thoroughly discussed, You did a great job of reading and prepping about the long term lease. We had very good discussions and questions so you guys came prepared to discuss.
The use of more user-friendly by-law format was approved and will replace the old format.
The long term lease of 20-30 years was approved giving the EC flexibility to obtain the best number of years without going back to a vote. Please keep in mind this is not official yet until the T & C Development officially approves it and a lease is signed.
This lease will have annual price increases based on CPI index. Again, this is not official yet until other party officially accepts and a lease is signed.
It was approved to trim the cliff above the marina. At the last meeting, it was approved to place crushed stone on the road in between the marina and the bottom of the slope.
If anybody is interested to run for the 4 elected positions, please see Ed Rowe asap as these have to be in before the August meeting.
We had a great Beef and Cheer - thanks to Donna Swain, CA officers, and all of the volunteers. Significant funds for both groups were delivered to both groups and the amount will be in the next Minutes Report.
Save the date - Poker Run is August 23 with Nautigoose being the anchor stop. Stay tuned for more details. Donna needs to know how many boats and people are attending so we can save boat spaces and tell them approximately how many will attend. You can play hands without going and we always find room for people to go if don't have a boat.
Did you see how great the beach has looked? Thanks to Dan Short and his volunteers. There are currently 3 firepits on the beach so please have fires only in these. No beer cans or bottles or other non-burnable debris can go in them. The wood can only be driftwood.
ALSO:
Please make sure are dock lines are on the catwalks and not on the grass at all times as not responsible if mower blades affect them and you will be responsible for mower damage.
The main channel is now lit up! Thank you, Ed, for that! Attached is a photo.
Thank you

Please be sure to notify club secretary, Dawn Fluman, of any address, phone number or email address changes ASAP in order to help with club communication to all of our members. We are trying to notify members via email of all communications to help reduce costs like paper, ink, envelopes and postage.
We will continue to send communication via USPS to those preferring that method. But either way, we need current updated information on all our members so be sure to notify Dawn of any changes via email

Boating license
Maryland law requires boat safety education for all boat and PWC operators who were born after July 1, 1972.
Boating courses are now available online
RENTAL POLICY
This is now the policy set forth by Membership for slip rentals for all members and associates.
1. You may have a total of 3 rental opportunities for the boating season.
2. If you have a rental during a regular weekend or during the week it can be up to two nights only. You must take your boat out following the rental agreement and slips will be checked for compliance. If your boat is not removed after your rental agreement has expired all future rental opportunities will be forfeited.
3. If you have a rental on a holiday weekend it can be up to 3 nights and again your boat must be removed following the expiration of your rental agreement.
4. There is a charge of $25 per night and this must be prepaid to Membership before you will be given a slip number. There are no refunds if you do not use the slip.
5. After your request Membership will contact you if a slip is available. If Membership tells you no slips are available that is final. There are less slips available this year than last year for rental as more members have chosen to use their slips. If you do not accept the Membership chairman's decision then you will forfeit all rental opportunities for the rest of the 2024 boating season.
